Scribe Post - Part 3 3/24/10

Arna, Emily, and I are sharing scribe duties for our last class - Session 6 (Class 7 - March 24, 2010). I am scribing on the last third of Session 6 which pertained to a Cool Tool called Prezi (http://prezi.com/) . During this part of the class, we watched a 3 minute video about Prezi which offered a brief introduction to what Prezi is all about. We were informed that Prezi is free to join and use and that it is a presentation tool like Power Point, but more fun. When using Prezi, you begin with a canvas upon which you put your main ideas and your subideas on the topic of your choice. The size of the font becomes a way for you to show relationships between ideas. You can add frames - circles and brackets - and then can manipulate ideas. You can also add images, video clips, and links. Prezi takes the idea of Power Point and makes it more creative. After watching the video, there was a step-by-step outline on the website that we could use to help us get started with Prezi. We were then able to take some time to practice using Prezi on our own during the next part of the class. Again, the hands-on practice allowed us to receive immediate information and feedback in the use of this Cool Tool. After practicing with Prezi, we discussed Cohasset Community of Practice (CCoP) and our Learning Connections Personal Log. Each of us called out a topic that we have learned about related to 21st Century learning and we were asked if we could teach it to someone else. There were varied responses from people, but this activity helped to get us thinking about where we are with our learning and what our roles are as both teachers and learners. This concept is a continued promotion of the idea that we can learn from each other on an ongoing basis beyond the scope of the class. This also supports the idea that the CCoP will perpetuate into the future as we continue our journey of learning with each other.
