The previous quote is a bold, eye opening statement for all educators who are exploring 21st century skills for the first time. "Will Our Students be Prepared" explores what we should be truly spending the time, money and energy on in our schools to prepare our students with the 3Cs. NCLB has not gone away and yet the advent of 21st century skills is becoming a major focus. There is consensus that core content should "coexist" with any 21st century curriculum. Assessment should also be taken into account. Right now we have several measures of assessment across states but how should that change to align with 21st century skills?
Personally I view this article as a window or even a door opening for those who haven't yet begun to see how schools should evolve in the 21st century. I would encourage all stake holders including school committee members, parents, administration and educators to assess their own schools and see how we're truly preparing our children.
