Here is a scribe post highlighting March 24th's discussion of I.C.T. (Information and Communication Technology), and "Symphony" a student created video from the Flat Classroom Project. I.C.T. Literacy has 4 major components: 1. Applying Technology Effectively, 2. Digital Technology Tools, 3. Functioning in the Conceptual Age, and 4. Using Digital Tools. With those 4 parts in mind, we viewed "Symphony", an online video explaining the analogous relationship between. music and Web 2.0. The student called Web 2.0, "the music of my generation." He proceeds to compare the sections of an orchestra to Web 2.0 tools in a highly creative, yet simple way. The brass is the the social network, which brings messages to the forefront of people's thoughts. The drums are the blogs, stating opinions and journaling. The woodwinds is wikipedia and wikis, where everyone is a researcher. Finally the strings is YouTube, Flicker, which adds beauty and strength. It was plain to see after viewing this video why it was award-winning.
We discussed how "Symphony" fit in with the ideas behind I.C.T. This form of literacy is certainly becoming more innate for the younger generations. The norms are changing when we consider newer forms of communication and WE need to participate to fully understand the new norms. Being a part of this course is helping us all take the first step!
